80 years of pride, progress and premierships

St Kilda City Football Netball Club is celebrating 80 years of community spirit, success and sporting tradition in 2026. Current player Charley Falla traces the story back to the intrepid Inkerman Rovers of 1946.

The milestone underscores eight decades of local connection, on-field success and a proud tradition that continues to shape the club today.

Founded in 1946 as the Inkerman Rovers, the club began as a social football side before relocating to Alma Road Park in 1951 and adopting the name Balaclava. Just a year later, it moved to its now-iconic home at Peanut Farm Reserve.

A major milestone came in 1958 when the club aligned with the St Kilda Football Club, adopting the famous red, white and black colours that remain synonymous with St Kilda City. The club joined the South Eastern Suburban Football League in 1964 and expanded its sporting footprint in 1978 with the introduction of cricket, becoming the St Kilda City Sports Club.

When the Saints come marching in

The club’s most dominant football era came between 2007 and 2010, when St Kilda City emerged as one of the competition’s powerhouse programs. In that stretch, the club reached four straight Division One grand finals and won three premierships, cementing a culture of sustained excellence that continues today.

Off the field, the club has continued to evolve, creating many for opportunities to get involved. The reintroduction of junior football in 2008 created a strong pathway for young players, while the launch of netball in 2013 further deepened the club’s community presence. The program quickly flourished, claiming its first netball premiership just two years later.

Another significant chapter began in 2025 with the introduction of the club’s inaugural women’s football program. Showing early promise and talent, the new side marked an important step forward in the club’s growth and its commitment to creating opportunities for female footballers in the local community.

With a proud past, deep community roots and fresh talent emerging across every level, St Kilda City is honouring its 80-year history while charging towards its next chapter.
