Call for Hall Gets Louder

Hands on civics lesson as students rally for school hall. St Kilda Primary, Monday 3.45 pm

Students at St Kilda Primary School are getting a hands-on lesson in civics and democracy this week as they voice their call for a new hall during the Federal election campaign.

They are holding a rally after school on Monday 31 March and will be meeting a bevy of local politicians and candidates to explain their cause. It’s expected that Macnamara hopefuls Josh Burns, Sonya Semmens, and Benson Saulo will be there to hear the call, as well as newly minted State MP Rachal Westaway.

Waiting for Five Frustrating Years

St Kilda Primary School has been without an indoor recreation space for five years, meaning that most students at the school have yet to use a hall.

Without a hall, the school has no venue for physical education, assemblies, graduations, performances, or extracurricular and community activities during rainy or very hot weather. The Victorian State Government demolished the former indoor hall as part of capital works in 2020 and has not fulfilled its promise to provide or fund an equivalent facility. The demolished hall was used seven days a week by either school or community groups, from puppy school to ballet classes.
