Construction starts on 68 new homes

Housing First has started construction of 68 new homes in Balaclava in partnership with Homes Victoria

HousingFirst, as Trustee of the Port Phillip Housing Trust, anticipates completing the 68-apartment redevelopment in mid-2027.

The redevelopment in Grosvenor Street will provide architect-designed, environmentally sustainable homes with modern amenities and beautiful shared spaces for residents to enjoy.

The Balaclava residences have been designed by H2o Architects, with construction services provided by GRC Buxton and project management overseen by Gallagher Jeffs.

Jan Berriman, CEO of HousingFirst, welcomed the government funding as a much-needed boost for the City of Port Phillip.

“During this housing crisis the demand for social housing in the City of Port Phillip has continued to grow. I’m delighted that this significant contribution from Homes Victoria will enable HousingFirst to more than triple the community housing at this location.

“With the homes being built to high contemporary standards, the returning and incoming residents will enjoy higher amenity and more sustainable homes that have lower energy costs.”
