[Friday, 28 March] As the election campaign began, Council published a wish list of projects worthy of Federal funding.
Mayor Louise Crawford said the council was calling for candidates to help make a difference by supporting initiatives, including community safety upgrades, early childhood centre redevelopments, Elwood Foreshore revitalisation, public transport for Fishermans Bend, and future-proofing South Melbourne Market.
The list includes $23.5 million in costed projects, a few ‘drawing board’ ideas, as well as support for billions in city-shaping public transport projects.
The costed projects are:
Children’s Centre Infrastructure: $10 million
CCTV: $3.5 million
South Melbourne Market Expansion: $6 million
Broadway Bridge Renewal: $4 million.
The drawing board projects include Elwood Foreshore Redevelopment and plans for Station Pier & Waterfront Place.
The city-shaping public transport projects include a Melbourne Metro 2 (with a station in Fishermans Bend) and Fishermans Bend Tram – both projects in the $billions range.
