Deeply passionate about kindergarten and childcare

By Jenni Roper, independent candidate for St Kilda Ward.

Vital services like childcare and kindergartens, are the backbone of a thriving and connected community.

I am deeply passionate about this issue, not only because of the invaluable role these services play for families, but also because of the profound impact they have had on my own life.

My children were incredibly fortunate to attend a not-for-profit childcare service, CoPP Family Day Care, as well as a locally run community kindergarten. These services were more than just places of care; they became spaces where my children grew and learnt.

We must ensure that local programs like childcare and kindergartens are accessible and able to support future generations of families in St Kilda.

These services foster relationships, provide guidance and create a sense of stability for families at a time when they are often most vulnerable. They are a lifeline not only for parents but also for the entire community, strengthening our connections and ensuring that no one has to navigate these experiences alone.

I was introduced to a Parent Group, a gathering of parents / guardians  who were on similar journeys with their children. This group became my village and support system.  Many of the friendships I made during that time remain strong to this day.  That is why I believe it is absolutely essential that these services continue to grow and thrive.
