Full house to remember Raoul Wallenberg

The annual Raoul Wallenberg Day at the Town Hall was standing room only as the faithful gathered to acknowledge the bravery of this Swedish Diplomat who helped thousands of Jews flee Hungary in the closing stages of World War 2.

Ironically, after helping so many reach safety, he disappeared after Soviet troops arrived and has never been seen again.
Speaking at the event, Mayor Alex Makin said he was proud of the team work between Port Phillip and Glen Eira Councils to organise a joint statement against antisemitism signed by 67 Victorian Councils. Makin said he was the grandson of a Polish Holocaust survivor who migrated to Australia with his mother (then a child) in 1958. He said the event reminded us all to acknowledge the bravery of those who stood up against hate.
Council wants your ideas to bolster social cohesion
Buoyed by the support of the Glen Eira Port Phillp joint statement on antisemitism, both councils are looking for ideas to promote social cohesion.
Makin told TWiSK that submissions were still open for the Council Plan, and Council would welcome suggestions on how to bolster social cohesion.
Submissions close 1 February. [More info]
