As counting continues, it’s apparent that the ALP’S Josh Burns will be elected to represent Macnamara after receiving a 3% swing towards him. At this stage it looks like the Greens were placed third, with their preferences giving the ALP a decisive 15% margin.
The Liberal candidate Benson Saulo won a majority in only two local polling places, Caulfield and Caulfield North. As anticipated the minnow candidates received around 5% of the vote, the majority of their preferences flowed through to the Liberals.
To have any hope of victory, the Greens candidate Sonya Semmens needed to out poll the ALP, but according to scrutineer results, this was only achieved a small number of polling places, including St Kilda West, St Mary’s Primary, St Kilda Primary and Windsor.
Congratulations must go Josh Burns for being elected a third time. Bravo also to both Sonya Semmens and Benson Saulo for their efforts to secure just under 30% of the vote each.
