After 12 weeks of encampment, the rough sleepers camped around the Ngargee tree in Albert Park left on Tuesday, 18 February .
The following morning, Parks Victoria staff moved in to start cleaning up the site, removing three vehicle loads of rubbish, abandoned camp materials, and many bicycles.
Local volunteers have told TWiSK they are incredibly relieved and looking forward to returning to help maintain the conservation area around the tree.
However, Parks Victoria asked the volunteers not to resume work until they have done another clean-up and rechecked the site again on Friday.
