Last week we reported on Council’s plans for public EV charging. In that story we noted that our requests for usage data on the chargers at the South Melbourne Market had gone unanswered.
This week we got our answer, and it beggars belief!
Q: Can I please get usage data for the South Melbourne Market EV chargers?
A: Media Response from Port Phillip Council Mayor Heather Cunsolo [in full]
‘Two electric vehicle (EV) charging units have been in place at South Melbourne Market since late 2020. We don’t have data usage on the units, but anecdotally we believe both are heavily utilised – based on feedback from officers’ experience on site. As the technology evolves, we are investigating data collection capabilities for the future.’
Background from Market website
The City of Port Phillip have installed two free electric vehicle charging stations on the South Melbourne Market rooftop carpark, providing residents and visitors with a convenient location to recharge their cars. Council has invested in the charging stations, which will be powered in part by the 612 solar panels on the roof of the Market. The charging stations are compatible with all electric vehicles and models.
