Safety motivated me to stand for council

By Jenni Roper, independent candidate for St Kilda Ward.

For many years, I have been deeply committed to advocating for the safety and well-being of our community, which I have had the privilege to call home.

My experiences and involvement in safety initiatives within our area have underscored the need for a more focused and proactive approach from our council in addressing the safety and amenity concerns of both residents and businesses in St Kilda.

Having advocated for CCTV in our streets and asking for more lighting and improved CCTV, I believe it will assist people’s perception of being safe.  While we have achieved some progress over the years, I believe there is still much work to be done.

Everyone should have a roof over their head and live in a safe environment, that is why I believe that there should be more access to supportive housing, treatment facilities and access to health facilities, engaging with Alfred Health and outreach services.

My decision to run for council is driven by a strong desire to continue and expand upon these efforts, ensuring that our community remains a safe, vibrant and welcoming place for all.
