LASTEST: There will be a Memorial Party for Liz Pain on 11 February 2026 (6 pm to 10 pm) at Zinc in Federation Square, Melbourne. Please RSVP here before 2 Feb ❤️
The amazing Liz Pain slipped over the rainbow on Monday morning. She died of dementia-related illnesses. Her body had stopped serving her, and so this passing was a relief for her.
Thousands of people have enjoyed many great events and parades because of Liz, and hundreds of people are working in the theatre and event industry because of her guidance and mentoring. We have much gratitude to our amazing crew who helped us do so many amazing gigs.
Liz Pain was one of the founding members of Pride March Victoria and coordinated the first 11 Pride Marches. She was a long-term St Kilda resident.
Liz’s impact on Melbourne’s lesbian and gay community cannot be overstated. She brought people together with creativity, humour, and a fierce sense of purpose, helping to shape spaces where we could all stand proud and celebrate who we are. The Pride March was, and remains, a powerful public declaration — a space where visibility, courage, and solidarity save lives. Liz understood that stepping into the street hand in hand, out and proud, could give others the strength to do the same. Her belief in the importance of being seen and celebrated changed countless lives and strengthened the fabric of our community.
Her generosity of spirit, her tireless work behind the scenes, and her belief in community have left an enduring mark that will continue to shine through the people and events she inspired. Liz’s legacy lives on in the joy, courage, and connection she helped to nurture.
There will not be a funeral but a big party to celebrate Liz’s life in Melbourne in the new year. To find out more details on this event or to send condolences, please contact her partner Penny on penny@harmonicmotion.com.au.
Please don’t send any flowers; if you can afford it, please donate to something you believe in or reach out and help someone in need. That is what she would have wanted.
