Parents from St Kilda Primary School have stepped up their campaign to get funding for an important new community hub – a combination community hall and indoor recreation space.
A parent spokesperson explained their campaign to TWiSK:
‘Our previous school hall – which was used 7 days a week – was demolished in 2020 to make way for the fantastic new classrooms along the Brighton Road frontage.
‘The plan was to replace that hall as part of the new classrooms building however the Government decided to relegate the hall to a second (unfunded) stage of construction on the Chapel Street frontage.
‘We have what’s called an Endorsed Landscape Masterplan which includes the community hub, but it remains unfunded.
‘The parents were hopeful for good news in the last two state budgets, but we didn’t get the funding we needed.
‘So, on behalf of our community and students, we are working with all the local politicians to advocate for funding.
‘It sounds corny, but next year is our 150th birthday and news of a new community hub would be the dream present!
