Despite appeals in both the Senate and House of Representatives, Australia Post CEO Paul Graham has told local MP Josh Burns that the doors will close on 19 July as announced.
Burns had a meeting last week with Graham and published the disappointing news on his social media.

It said in part:
‘While I am grateful for Mr Graham’s time and engagement, regrettably he informed me that the closure of the St Kilda South Post Office will be going ahead.
‘I know this is not the outcome we wanted
‘However I was informed by Mr Graham that Australia Post is looking to retain some services in Acland Street.’
Support in Senate from well-known Green face
Newly minted Victorian Senator Steph Hodgins-May spoke in the Senate last week to raise ‘deep and justified community concerns around the slated closure of the Shakespeare Grove Post Office in St Kilda where I live.’
‘If this closure proceeds, there will be significant consequences for local residents and businesses who have relied on this essential service for over a decade,’ she said.
Ongoing talks for local LPO
While AP seems dedicated to reducing the number of full service post offices, it is actively expanding the franchising of licensed post office outlets – two of which already exist in St Kilda (115 Fitzroy Street and 95 Brighton Road).
Time for an ‘old school’ response?
Here’s a thought. Why not pen a letter to Mr Graham, Australia Post CEO, to share your thoughts on the closure.
Maybe say how important it is to be able to ‘pop into the post office’ in your ‘hood rather than have to make a trip of it.
TWiSK would never suggest you forget to put a stamp on it ….
