Football kicked off again at the Peanut Farm with incredible results for St Kilda City teams – one heart-breaking loss, a draw, and an inspiring win.
All recorded on the new LED scoreboard that was funded with support from Community Bank Elwood, the AFL, the City of Port Phillip, the Palais Community Infrastructure Fund, St Kilda City Junior Football Club, and Club members.
At the first games of the season, the scoreboard witnessed the agony and ecstasy of footy results and the drama of a draw.
In the first game under the LED scoreboard, the new St Kilda City women’s team suffered a devastating defeat by the more experienced Murrumbeena Women’s 2 team – the final scoreboard result was a staggering St Kilda City 0.0.(0) to Murrumbeena 28.14.(182). Ouch.
Then came the Men’s Reserves, St Kilda City vs. South Mornington. In a hard-fought competitive match, the results see-sawed, with both teams struggling to score. The thud of the boots, the roar of the crowd, and players giving it their all before a vocal crowd watching the scoreboard and players as the seconds ticked down… to an excruciating draw: 4.4.(28) each.
In the headline game, after the ceremonial raising of the netball premiership flags and the launch of the scoreboard, St Kilda City and South Mornington competed under a warm autumn sun. This time, the scoreboard recorded its first home team triumph, with St Kilda City dominating the scoring shots: 10.20.(80) vs. South Mornington 5.4.(34).
